Description

The silver war nickel, minted in the United States from mid-1942 to 1945, were a special wartime issue of the five-cent coin. Unlike standard nickels made of 75% copper and 25% nickel, these coins contained 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese. The composition was changed during World War II to conserve nickel, a metal critical for military production. Silver war nickels are easily identifiable by the large mint mark (P, D or S) above the Monticello building on the reverse, a feature unique to this wartime series. These coins hold historical significance and are popular among collectors for both their silver content and their role in the wartime economy.

This is a roll of 40 silver war nickels in circulated condition.
