During Chinese New Year, people burn “Hell Notes,” which are paper money meant to give financial support to their deceased ancestors in the afterlife. These colorful notes are burned as a way to honor the dead and help them in the spirit world. The tradition is a way to show respect and keep a connection with ancestors, hoping they have what they need in the afterlife and continue to watch over the living.
These note were made in the early 1960’s with the three “Chinese Devils”; John Kennedy, Joseph Stalin and Harold Wilson.
