Indian Trade Pipe – 1800s<\/span><\/p>\n

Size is about 2 inches and weighs about 15 grams.<\/span><\/p>\n

Found in 1966 by Parker Melvin of Cincinnati, Ohio on the Ohio River at the juncture of Big Indian Creek.<\/p>\n

This pipe was made by the early settlers to trade to the Indians in exchange for furs during the extensive fur trading era of the 1800’s. This pipe is made from clay. Some are plain and some are decorative. The ones with Native American faces are the most sought after by collectors.<\/p>\n

Originally made mostly in Ireland for use in the pubs after tobacco was introduced to Europe from the Americas. Tobacco<\/a> has long been used in the Americas, with some cultivation sites in Mexico dating back to 1400\u20131000 BC. \u00a0The pipes were brought back to the America’s and became a popular trade item.<\/p>\n
