Cretaccous Period 100-112 Million years old
Santana Formation, Araripe Basin, Brazil
Size is about 6 inches long and weighs about 192 grams.
Paralipsis cearensis, or “Gar,” is an extinct fish from the Cretaceous Period, about 100-112 million years ago. It was found in the Santana Formation of the Araripe Basin in Brazil, known for its well-preserved fossils. Related to modern gars, it had a long body and a sharp snout. P. cearensis was likely a predator, feeding on smaller fish and invertebrates. Its fossils help scientists learn more about the animals and ecosystems of the early Cretaceous, especially in South American waters.
