The footprints of the Batrachopus dewei dinosaur were found in the uppermost Passaic Formation in Passaic County, New Jersey. The dinosaur dates from the early Jurassic, about 190 million years ago. These small, well-preserved tracks were made by ancient, upright-walking relatives of crocodiles. The footprints show clear toe marks and suggest the animals walked on land. Their discovery helps scientists learn more about the types of animals and environments that existed in the area during that time.
The Batacopus dewei was a small dinosaur, measuring 10-12 in (25 cm) to 20 in (50 cm) in length.
